What to Consider for Photography in Sacramento
👉 Time of year. Consider what kind of season you want for your photography and/or visit. If you want to get the amazing fall leaves, or Spring cherry blossoms, or if you want to go to festivals, you’ll need to pick the right time of year for your photoshoot. The best times to visit Sacramento are from September-November and from April-June. The State Fair is in July but that’s also the hottest time of year. November-February has the most rain and fog.
👉 Safety. If you’re a solo traveler and/or photographer, some Sacramento photo spots get more unsafe at night, as the city has a homelessness issue. Be aware of your surroundings and research your nighttime photo spots, including asking the locals, before you go!
👉 Consider experiencing Photography Month. Sacramento has an entire month dedicated to photography! All levels of photographers are welcome to attend the exhibits, receptions, meetups for photoshoots, workshops and lectures and more!

Canon 6D: This is the camera I currently own and use. It has wifi connectivity, is a full-frame professional camera:

✅ Lens
Depending on your photography style, you might want a wide angle, telephoto (for close-up nature and wildlife photography), and standard zoom for an all-around lens.
I use this Canon EF 16-35mm Wide-Angle Zoom Lens, because I love wide-angle photos but don’t want to sacrifice zoom capability:
- Make sure this fits by entering your model number
- Full-time manual focus permits critical focusing precision, even in AF mode. Help provide excellent color balance
- Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers Approx. 100% Area with 1,053 AF Areas
This telephoto lens works with Canon cameras. It’s top-rated for macro photography and value, plus is lightweight with fast and accurate autofocus plus hybrid image stabilization.
The aperture is f/2.8 max, with 100mm focal length. It’s great for portrait, wildlife and nature photography and for action in low light. It also has a good depth of field (1:1).
- 100 millimeter focal length and 1:2.8 maximum aperture
- 23.4-Degree diagonal angle of view
- Inner focusing system with USM and full-time manual focus option
- Canon's first mid-telephoto macro "L" series lens to include Canon's sophisticated Image Stabilization
- Near-silent Ultrasonic focusing
- Enjoy life-size close-up capabilities without an adapter

✅ 4-In-One Travel Tripod
I use this tripod because it’s the perfect versatile tool for travel photography! - Works with smartphones & cameras
- Folds up small & lightweight
- Turns into a selfie stick & trekking poles
- Comes with a carrying case

- Temperature Proof, Water Proof, Shock Proof & X-ray Proof
- Affordability
✅ Remote Shutter
A Remote Shutter, like this one for Canon, is excellent for low-light and long-exposure photography, including sunrise or night photos:

- Deepens the intensity of blue skies; reduces or eliminates glare
- Multi-coating reduces reflection
