What to Consider for the Best Portland Photoshoot Spots
👉 Direction of sunrise and sunset. Go places where the sun will be coming up or down where you want it at that time of day – meaning, pay attention to the direction you’ll be taking the photo with the subject in mind. If you’re looking to get the sunrise/set, make sure it’s happening in that direction and go at the proper time. If you wnat the sun behind you to shine on your subject for golden hour, make sure it’s right, as well!
👉 Weather. Portland has its own weather patterns, and to get a good viewpoint photo, you’ll want to go when visibility is good (no smog or fog). Make sure of that – and for clouds, they can actually make for a great photo! Just make sure you can see for enough distance. Harsh summer wildfires are a safety issue that can also affect visibility, as well as winter snowstorms.
👉 Safety. It’s not a secret that Portland’s crime levels have risen, but that doesn’t mean it’s not safe to visit. Just be aware of your surroundings and don’t carry your camera everywhere in broad daylight – store it in a normal bag. Also, don’t leave valuables in your car or rental vehicle. Also, when in nature or hiking areas, be prepared and watch your step at all times.
