Where To Stay In Haifa In 2026 For Every Budget (Neighborhoods, Hotels + More)

Wondering where to stay in Haifa, Israel? You’ve come to the right place!

I lived in Haifa for 5 months out of the 2 years I lived in Israel, doing an internship where I got to explore northern Israel archaeological sites – including using a lot of public transportation! I also had days of photo editing in Haifa, which gave me ample time to explore as well.

I’ve also stayed in a hostel, the Port Inn, which I liked so much I stayed there more than once! I’m sharing my number one picks overall for each budget, then more places for each area of Haifa (with info on which is the best to stay in, if you’re not sure), and the top places for every budget in each area!

My top picks are based on amenities, location, overall reviews and my own personal knowledge.

Where To Stay In Haifa: The Beach

Haifa has a number of beaches, but I recommend staying on the western side for the best ones, around the Neve David Area. These beaches include:

• Carmel Beach
• Dado Beach
• Gilad Beach
• Beach Club Haifa

The beachfront promenade, lots of restaurants and more are here, too! It’s also one of the more modern neighborhoods in Haifa.

This area is also near the International Convention Center, Azrieli Mall and more places. Keep reading for a Bat Galim Beach option, too!

1. Best Overall Option (The Beach): Leonardo Plaza Hotel

The Leonardo Plaza Hotel is the best beach option, mostly because it’s the only beachfront hotel in Haifa – and it’s also highly rated!

Carmel Beach Luxury Apartment is a highly-rated apartment near the beach (and since Haifa doesn’t have many actual beach hotels, this is an excellent option if you want to be close)!

Carmel beach is a 7-minute walk, and Dado Beach is 1.4 miles away.

Bat Galim Boutique Hotel is on Bat Galim Beach, which is in a more residential area of Haifa and further from the more popular beaches. It is a popular surf spot, so if you’re a surfer or want a quieter beach, you might like this location, plus it’s close to more areas like:

Where To Stay In Haifa: The German Colony

The German Colonies in Israel were started by Templars from Germany in the 1860s when Israel was overtaken by the Ottoman Empire. Today, the German Colony in Haifa is a cool place to go because it still has the original 1860s stone buildings, making it one of the most scenic areas in Haifa! It also has a lot of amazing restaurants, shops, nightlife, museums and more.

4. Best Budget Option (The German Colony): German Colony Guest House – Private and Dorm rooms

The German Colony Guest House is a great budget option for the price and location (it’s not the highest reviews, but if you’re there to sleep and socialize a bit, it can really help your wallet)! You can choose from bunk rooms or private rooms, and it’s surrounded by bars and restaurants to hang out in.

There are some rooms with private bathrooms, and then there are 2 separate shared bathrooms – one male and one female. There’s also a shared kitchen.

The hostel is also close to the Quiet Beach and the Sculptures Garden.

The Colony Hotel is a highly rated Haifa favorite! It’s right in the middle of Haifa’s historical center, surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops and public transit.

The hotel is in a 100-year-old building, and was renovated in 2009 into a boutique hotel with amazing design! It’s just a short walk from the Baha’i Gardens and not far from the Mediterranean.

Where To Stay In Haifa: Downtown (the Lower City)

Downtown Haifa, or the Lower City, is near the neighborhoods of Wadi Nisnas and Wadi Salib, as well as Haifa Port. Other places in the area include:

• The Haifa Museum of Art

• Israel Railway Museum
• Flea Market
• Madatech Science Museum

There are also a lot of amazing pizza places, ice cream parlors and more restaurants. Downtown also has bars and nightlife, as well as the HaZikaron Garden with playgrounds for kids!

7. Best Budget Option (Downtown): The Port Inn

The Port Inn is my top pick overall for a budget place to stay in Haifa! I’ve stayed here twice and loved it both times. It has an excellent location near the Haifa Center HaShmona Railway Station and Haifa Port, so you won’t have to lug your suitcase around so much.

It’s also located in an Arabic-style building that is really pretty with a courtyard, and the breakfast is really good as well. You can choose bunk rooms or a private room.

Where To Stay In Haifa: Mount Carmel

I lived in this area during my internship program. It’s on top of the mountain, which has pros and cons – there’s a lot to do and you’ll have amazing views, but getting to the beach and back can be a challenge, especially during Shabbat!

This area is close to:

More Ways To Find Haifa Accommodation (including Free+Cheap Options)

Still looking for something different or cheaper? Here are some options:

Option 1: Facebook. In Israel, everyone uses good ol’ Facebook to rent out their apartments when they leave on vacation! Search for groups and you’ll be able to find options.

Option 2: Volunteer at a hostel! You’ll get free room and board, and sometimes food, too! Read more in this post: Working In A Hostel: Everything You Need To Know.

Option 3: For more hostel options, I use Hostelworld, a search engine to find hostels.

Option 4: For apartment and house rentals that you’ll have all to yourself, check out VRBO – Like Airbnb, you can find places to stay that aren’t hotels.

Option 5: Trusted Housesitters – If you’re not allergic to animals (like I am), you can sign up for this. There’s a yearly fee, but you get housesits and you can stay free while caring for people’s pets!

Option 6: Couchsurfing – Where to find places you can stay on people’s couches and save a lot of money.

Important Tips For Staying at Hotels & Hostels In Haifa

👉 Always bring your passport and entry card (that you’ll get at the airport) to hotels and hostels in Haifa! Otherwise, you’ll be charged the VAT tax.
👉 Breakfast at hotels usually includes some foods you’re used to, but Israeli breakfast is better (and includes vegetables)! Be ready to try new foods that you’re going to love.
👉 Send an email if you’re arriving late – you may be charged extra (but I also got a free room upgrade when this happened to me!) Definitely tell them in advance, or you’ll be locked out.

👉 For all over Israel, get a Rav Kav, the public transit card. You can fill up at stations and stores around the city. If you don’t get one and fill it up outside of the bus, you’ll have to buy one for one ride on the bus, and it’s more expensive – so be sure to pick one up at the airport!

👉 Trains: There are a few major train stations to choose from.

👉 Walking: You can walk in Haifa, but the mountain can be intense. In the first part of my 5 months, I had to walk the mountain on Shabbat and it was rough. By the end, I ran down and walked back up on this adventure!

What you’ll need for trips in Haifa & Israel in general

To prepare for a trip to Israel and the Middle East, the first thing to know is what time of year you’re going and to be ready for the weather. Here are my top things to get before a visit to Israel/Haifa:

👉 Travel Insurance, of course is always a necessity, in my opinion! Here are my top 2 options:

• Allianz (This is what I use through my AAA membership)
• Safety Wing (best for those outside the US and nomads)

👉 SIM Card. You can get physical ones at the airport, or an eSIM (which, if you have a new phone is a must): I recommend GigSky or Airalo (read my comparison review post here).

👉 Adapter. You’ll need to be able to plug things into the outlets! I recommend this Universal Power Adapter with Type C Plug + More, so you can use it for more than just one place/trip!

👉 Apple AirTags: To track your bags so they don’t get lost in transit (which is known to happen in Israel)! I have them, plus AirTag Covers (these are the ones I have, and they have amazing reviews).

👉 Padlock for Hostels & Luggage Storage: These will save you money, especially at hostels because you can avoid having to rent a padlock!

👉 Anker Portable Charger: These are the lightest on the market, as well as top-rated by multiple experts! Necessary for a backup to charge your phone and bluetooth headphones, and especially for if you find yourself without an outlet, or without a converter, which can be such a lifesaver when you’re walking all around TLV!

👉 Electrolyte packets like these for better hydration, because walking around in the sun will get to you more than you’d think in Israel.

What to Consider for Staying In Haifa

👉 Middle East Culture. Haifa is known for its lively nightlife and late dining habits. Locals often stay out late, especially in the summer (even at the beach) because it cools down once the sun goes down!

👉 Language. Many people in Haifa speak English, but not as many as in Tel Aviv. Public transportation can get confusing because of this. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with some Hebrew words and phrases, and the alphabet if you want to read signs. 👉 Forgetting Shabbat. Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday. That means weekdays in Israel are Sunday-Thursday, and weekends are Friday-Saturday, and it’s really difficult to get anywhere during Shabbat unless you’re walking. Also keep holidays in mind, because places shut down for them, too.

👉 Littering. Littering can be an issue in Israel on the beaches and in parks, and most people hate it! You can participate in beach clean-ups that happen often, and just please don’t litter.

I suggest 1-2 days in Haifa minimum. There are the big sites like the Baha’i Gardens, but there’s also more to see and experience that you could fill a few more days with, between the museums, sites, beaches and hiking!
