“”I had a great time in this tour! You do so much for the amount you pay! It was an all day excursion around Miami and then the the Everglades which was absolutely amazing! Sadly it was raining in the morning during my tour but I still had a great time! It wasn’t raining when we started the bus tour so we were all sitting up in the open top of the bus but then it started raining about half way through which I was then soaked but that was my own decision haha I still very much enjoyed my time! We went to little Havana and got some Cuban coffee which was incredible, then took a boat tour around Biscayne Bay and saw millionaires mansions, then did an Everglades tour which was my favorite part! Definitely work it if you have a free day! I was staying in Miami Beach so the pick up and drop off was only 10 minutes from my hotel which was great”

“Bianca was adorable! She knew her way around Little Havana and so much about the history and culture. It was nice to hear everything from her perspective. The tour began on time and was undulated with small stories of how the area became little Havana. We were able to indulge in the local foods that have become a staple of the Cuban culture. We started the tour with empanadas and Cuban coffee and ended with churros and pastries! Bianca was authentic and very easy to listen to. I would recommend this tour without hesitation.”

Getting to and around Miami

The best photo spots in Miami, Florida

👉 Flights: WayAway is a flight aggregator that helps you find the cheapest flights. Use the code MUKI-TRAVELS for 10% off WayAway Plus.

👉 Rent a car in Miami: Discover Cars is a great tool to use to find the best deals.

👉 Public Transit: There is a Tri-Rail, Metrorail, Metromover & Metrobus in Miami.

👉 Notes: The public transit system often runs behind schedule and isn’t a reliable mode of transportation. It’s best to use Uber/Lyft or Freebee, a free shuttle service that makes money from ads (you can download apps for all of these).
Second, Miami traffic is crazy and people don’t love to stop for pedestrians, so be uber-careful when crossing the street!

Camera

There are DSLRs, Mirrorless options and more that are all great to consider. Check out this post on surf cameras for a full list of beginner-expert level cameras of each type, and more gear for outdoor and water photography, which is great for Sacramento because of the rivers and and lakes.

Canon 6D: This is the camera I currently own and use. It has wifi connectivity, is a full-frame professional camera:

Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Well-built and weather sealed
  • Lightweight for travel
  • 26.2 MP full-frame CMOS sensor

Lens

Depending on your photography style, you might want a wide angle, telephoto (for close-up nature and wildlife photography), and standard zoom for an all-around lens.

I use this Canon EF 16-35mm Wide-Angle Zoom Lens, because I love wide-angle photos but don’t want to sacrifice zoom capability:

Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L is USM Lens - 9518B002, Black
  • Make sure this fits by entering your model number
  • Full-time manual focus permits critical focusing precision, even in AF mode. Help provide excellent color balance
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers Approx. 100% Area with 1,053 AF Areas

GoPro Action Camera

The GoPro HERO 11 Black is waterproof down to 10m (33ft) without housing. Just attach it to anything and film as you go!

What to Consider for Photography in Miami

Miami photography

👉 Weather. Miami has a tropical monsoon climate, which means hot and humid summers with daily thundershowers, and warm/dry winters (but it’s pretty hot for most people’s standards year-round)!

Hurricane season is June 1-Nov 30 (but hurricanes can happen beyond those dates). Mid-August through the end of September is the most likely time for hurricanes.

Summer temps are really hot, between the mid-80’s and low 90’s °F, but the thundershowers and sea breeze can provide some cooling off in the afternoons. It almost never snows, except some snow flurries last recorded in 1977!

👉 Nightlife Attire. While daytime beachwear is perfect for Miami culture, at night you’ll want to dress up – seriously. Saying this as someone who does not enjoy dressing up, Miami is the place to do it because most clubs will enforce dress codes! You can’t wear jeans and tennis shoes, and shorts are also iffy. Also, most people in Miami eat dinner late. Like NYC, Miami is a city that never sleeps!

👉 Cuban coffee has A LOT of caffeine. If you’re like me, you love (and need) that caffeine to get you going and be ready to take photos – but too much can make it just as bad, or worse, than not having any! So much of Miami has Cuban heritage (over half of the population, in fact) – that you’re pretty likely to get Cuban espresso, or cafecito, which has a lot more caffeine than a regular espresso!
