What to Consider for Tampa Photography
📸 Climate. The climate in Florida, especially around the water, has a lot of sand and salt air, which can be hard on camera gear. Some tips include making sure you have a camera and lens that already are waterproofed, and getting protective gear for inclement weather, waves and more.
The summers in Tampa are humid and hot, and mostly cloudy, while the winters are cooler and windy, and only partly cloudy. The best times to visit Tampa for photography are late Feb-early May and mid-Oct-early Dec.
📸 Photography in and around the ocean. If you’re looking for underwater photos, surf photography and more, you’ll definitely need underwater housing and possibly more gear, like:
✅ Weather-sealing. Most cameras (and lenses) will say if they’re water resistant and/or water-sealed.
✅ Waterproof housing. Especially for water-based photography, but also if you’re going to get close to the water and waves, you’ll need waterproof housing, which you can buy separately. You can also bring a rain sleeve for added protection when you’re not using waterproof housing.

📸 Diversity of photo locations. Tampa and the surrounding area are full of amazing beaches that make for amazing photography and photoshoots, but the area has so much more to offer, too! Don’t forget the parks, cultural places and more ways to get a variety of photos and experiences.
