✅ Lens
Depending on your photography style, you can go with a wide angle (for landscape photos & more, telephoto (for close-up nature & wildlife photography), and/or a standard zoom for an all-around lens.
I use this Canon EF 16-35mm Wide-Angle Zoom Lens:
- Make sure this fits by entering your model number
- Full-time manual focus permits critical focusing precision, even in AF mode. Help provide excellent color balance
- Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF covers Approx. 100% Area with 1,053 AF Areas
✅ Dome for dual under- and over-water photos
If you want half-under, half-over water photos in Trinity River, Swimming Pools and more areas in and around Fort Worth, you’ll need a dome like this one that works with a GoPro:
✅ GoPro Action Camera
A GoPro is a perfect addition to your main camera to capture water sports, hiking, biking or horseback riding, or anything else that involves movement!
The GoPro HERO 12 Black is waterproof down to 10m (33ft) without housing:

✅ 4-In-One Travel Tripod
I use this tripod that works for DSLRs/Mirrorless cameras & Smartphones! It also doubles as a selfie stick, monopod and trekking poles, and is lightweight. It folds up small enough to fit in your suitcase (and did I mention, it’s affordable?):
- Beginner-friendly with room for growth
- Works with smartphones & cameras
- Folds up small & lightweight
- Turns into a selfie stick & trekking poles

A Circular Polarizer is perfect for capturing lake reflections and getting the bottom of bodies of water – just make sure to get the correct size for your lens:

What to Consider for Photography in Fort Worth
👉 Best times to visit Fort Worth. The best times to visit Fort Worth are March-May and Sept-November. These months are less hot than summer (which gets really hot), and less crowded. Dec-Feb is the most affordable time to visit Fort Worth.
👉 Times to visit for specific photo opportunities. There are specific photos you may want to take that might be only available at a specific time or season, like the cherry blossoms (late March-early April), Bluebonnet blossoms (late Feb–April but best in early-to-mid April), Rodeo Season (mid-Jan–Aug), Armadillo Season (April–Oct), the Texas State Fair (Sept-Oct, check dates each year), and more!
