20. Get A Refurbished Camera

For any of the above options, or even higher-level cameras, buying refurbished is a great way to get a really good camera for a lot less!

The last camera and lens I bought were used/refurbished, and they’re fantastic – best of all, they let me get a professional, full-frame DSLR and amazing lens for way less than usual price!

Tips for using a cheap beginner travel camera

๐Ÿ“ธ Familiarize Yourself Before Your Trip

You can read the manual, watch videos online or both, but make sure you spend some quality time getting to know your camera before your trip! Take LOTS of photos to see how they turn out – remember, practice makes perfect (aka, it builds confidence so you don’t miss opportunities for great photos)!

๐Ÿ“ธ Always Take Lots of Photos!

Continue to take a lot of photos on your trip, too. The more you take, the more likely you are to get more photos you love and you don’t have to use the ones you don’t!

๐Ÿ“ธ Shoot in RAW

Shooting in RAW is best because your photos retain a lot more information, so editing can be more effective! Just make sure to get a big memory card and bring along an extra or two (which is a good idea anyway)!

๐Ÿ“ธ Edit Your Photos

Use a program like Adobe Lightroom, or there are others out there for free or cheaper like GIMP, Paint.NET, Pixlr and more!

How To Choose The Best Camera For Travel

โœ”๏ธ Your Budget

Go with your budget! If your taste is way higher, make a compromise and you might need to look for something refurbished (from a trusted seller)!

โœ”๏ธ Lens Options

As mentioned earlier, sticking with a brand can be the cheapest option for the long run because you won’t be forced to replace all your lenses. Also think about if you want a camera that takes interchangeable lenses – I recommend this because you’ll be able to learn more as you go, and lenses can make a huge difference in photo quality, style and more!

For example, if you love landscape photography, a wide-angle lens is a good idea. If you’re more into macro (close-up) photography, a macro lens is best. For an all-around lens, get a standard zoom, etc. Do more research and have fun learning!

โœ”๏ธ Features

Look at what features best fit your photo and travel style to find the right camera(s) for your needs! For instance, action cameras don’t take interchangeable lenses and their photo quality won’t match a Mirrorless or DSLR. But you can’t use a Mirrorless or DSLR for a lot of action things where you would need to strap the camera to your helmet, for instance!

  • Get A Refurbished Camera
  • A Smartphone With The Best Camera

๐Ÿ‘‰ What cameras do beginner photographers use?

Beginner photographers use a camera that is affordable and that will give them room to learn and grow! A Mirrorless or DSLR is the best option. Examples include the Canon EOS M50 Mark II Mirrorless Camera and the Canon Rebel T7 DSLR Camera!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Which camera is best for casual photography?

If you don’t want to deal with learning too much, or using interchangeable lenses, a smartphone or point-and-shoot might be a good option for you. If you want higher quality for your photos, a smartphone or Mirrorless camera (that takes interchangeable lenses) will be a better option for casual photography.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Can you take good photos with a cheap camera?

You can take good photos with almost any camera, if you’re talking about elements like composition… but if you want more high quality photos like more megapixels, the option to blur the background (“bokeh”), and control over settings or lenses, you’ll need to do a bit more research – but that doesn’t mean it can’t be cheaply priced! You can find older versions of good Mirrorless or DSLR cameras, for example, or buy a refurbished camera and lens!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Are digital cameras better than phone cameras?

That depends. Especially with smartphone cameras getting better, you’ll need to get really picky about what kind of digital camera is worth the money – it will need to be better than your smartphone. If by “digital” you mean a point-and-shoot, most aren’t worth it. But Mirrorless cameras, which are replacing many DSLRs, can be a great option to do more than you can with your phone!

๐Ÿ‘‰ How do beginner photographers start out?

Learning and practicing is the best way for beginner photographers to start! Learn about how to take a good photo and start to recognize those qualities in other photos. Start paying more attention to everything in the frame of each photo you take. Get a camera that gives you room for growth and learning, and take lots of photos – and most of all, don’t forget to have fun!

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is the best 4K video camera for travel?

If you’re looking for a camera that can take longer videos in 4K, The Sony ZV-1F Vlog Camera for Content Creators and Vloggers is a great option!
