Cheap NYC Broadway Tickets: How To Snag The Best Deal In 2026

Want to know the best way to get cheap NYC Broadway tickets? There are many ways to snag the best deal and find affordable tickets in 2026, and so many free entertainment opportunities as well!
Read on to learn not only how to get the lowest ticket prices, but also what time to arrive to get them and how to find what shows are currently playing and their schedules.

While it is always an option to purchase a full-price Broadway ticket, many of us don’t have the cash… thankfully, there are ways to get affordable, dare I say cheap even, tickets to Broadway or Off-Broadway shows.
Why listen to me? I visit NYC often and I lived there after college, when I was broke. I’m always on the lookout for good deals so I can go see shows!

1. Search deals on apps and sites
Search discounted tickets on these sites and apps before anything else for those cheap NYC Broadway tickets:
- TodayTix app for discount tickets up to a month ahead of time. They also offer mobile rush tickets.
- BroadwayBox, TheaterMania, LincTix and GoldStar are more sites to check out for discounts.
- NYTIX (New York Show Tickets) has a membership of $4 a month if you’re a regular show-goer.
2. Rush the Theater
Go to the box office of Broadway or Off-Broadway shows first thing in the morning to get leftover cheap NYC Broadway tickets. This means be there when the theater opens, which is 10am all days except Sunday, which is 11-12 (check the show’s website). You probably want to get there earlier for more popular shows, though.
This is how I got the Les Mis tickets in the above photo for only $37 apiece, and is one of my favorite ways to get into big shows.
Check NYTix for rush schedules all in one place.
3. Broadway Lotteries
Lotteries used to be my favorite way to get cheap NYC Broadway tickets on my trips (and while I lived there), but now they’re much more difficult to actually win because of the internet. It’s so easy to sign up online, but that’s why you have less chance of winning these days. If you choose this method, you definitely have to be okay with not getting to see the show.
If you win, you’ll score two tickets for around $20 apiece, and the best front row seats… like, you can see the sweat from the actors on stage and when you stand up, you can see into the orchestra pit.
Before the internet lotteries, I scored the lottery for Wicked on my third try or so, and I also won for In the Heights.
However, with Hamilton I didn’t get the in-person lottery (see the crowd in the photo below), not only because of its popularity, but also because the original cast was about to have their final performance, and because the in-person lottery was only on certain days when they didn’t also have the online option. This was also in the middle of the summer, a record heat day in NYC, and all the tourists were in town.
If you do choose this route and have multiple people to also sign up, it ups your chances so it’s more worthwhile than if you’re solo.
For current lottery options, check out these sites:

4. Buy from the box office
Buy from the box office directly to avoid added fees and to snag last-minute premium seats that haven’t been bought yet.
5. Get last-minute tickets
If you’re desperate and/or flexible with your plans, you can try to grab last-minute cheap NYC Broadway tickets – as in, right before the shows start – from VividSeats or StubHub when ticket prices drop that haven’t yet been sold.
6. TKTS Booth
TKTS booth: I don’t have this as first on my list because it will only get you into the smaller shows. If you don’t get to visit NYC too often, or if it’s your first time, I would suggest this method only as a last resort.
My first Broadway play, back in the day, was through this method and while the show was fun, I was a bit disappointed because it wasn’t a major show.
They do have some decent shows you can get into, so TKTS is an option for those who have seen their dream show(s) already (or if you don’t win the lottery). They offer same day or next day matinee shows.
7. Cheap NYC Broadway tickets for students and young adults (18-40)
- Student tickets can be bought from the box office for $40. Be careful, though: I did this once and had to sit all the way in the back for Promises, Promises with Kristen Chenoweth and Sean Hayes… I was a little upset that I couldn’t even make out their faces! But hey, at least I got tickets… Another show I got student tickets to see was White Christmas, and the seats were better.
- Check out Roundabout Theater’s HipTix program if you’re 18-40 years old for $30 tickets.
- LincTix from Lincoln Center is for 21-35 year olds.
- Manhattan Theater Club has a “30 under 35” program offering $30 tickets to those under 35.
- Playwrights Horizons has programs for students ($10 tickets) and those under 35 ($20 tickets).

8. Broadway in Bryant Park
Broadway in Bryant Park happens every summer and is free, just check the schedule. They have chairs set up in the park and you can watch various shows perform songs. This usually happens on Thursdays, so if you’re in NYC all the time or for an extended period of time, you can go more than once – or watch for your favorite shows/performers and make sure to catch them!
They also have dance performances and shows from groups like STOMP.
Watch this clip of a performance from the Broadway cast of WICKED:
Bryant Park has other free entertainment opportunities as well, like movies in the park and more. Check their schedule here.
9. How to Snag Cheap Ballet & Opera Tickets
Tickets to the Metropolitan Opera are available for as low as $25. Just buy online or go by the box office at Lincoln Center. The same goes for the American Ballet Theatre.
When I went with a friend we got the cheapest tickets, which put us near the top of the theatre – far away from the performers. However, that was fine by me since I wanted to save money, and I had never been to the NYC ballet!

10. More Ways to Snag the Best Deal on Tickets & Shows in NYC
Of course, there’s a ton of off-Broadway theatre to be seen, concerts, festivals and street fairs. Many of these are free! There’s also Shakespeare in the Park, which is free in the summer in Central Park.

How to check prices and shows
Go to the theater’s website or check sites like Broadwayforbrokepeople or Playbill, where you can get current show schedules and more.
